Curly Cuts

Finding a hairdresser who understands naturally curly hair isn’t always straightforward. At POP, we’ve built a strong reputation for working with curls and take a considered, individual approach to every client.

You may have heard of Deva cuts or the Curly Girl Method, but rather than following a single system, we combine techniques—often working with both dry and wet cutting—to suit your hair’s natural movement and texture. Curly hair requires a different way of cutting and thinking about shape.

We’re experienced with a wide range of curl types (up to approximately 3B on the naturallycurly.com scale) and focus on creating shapes that feel balanced, natural and easy to manage. We’re also happy to advise on cleansing, conditioning and styling to support definition, shine and frizz control.

All stylists at POP are trained to work confidently with curly hair, and haircut prices remain the same. Depending on your hair and the time required, there may occasionally be an additional charge for extra care or styling.

We work with the specialist range JessiCurl to enhance softness and definition, and typically diffuse using the Dyson Supersonic.

JessiCurl Products

JessiCurl was created out of necessity. Founder Jess McGuinty developed her first product, Rockin’ Ringlets, at home in 2002 in search of a better way to care for naturally curly hair.

The range is free from silicones, drying alcohols and harsh sulfates, focusing instead on gentle cleansing, effective moisture and soft, defined styling.

“My conditioners moisturize without coating the hair. The cleansers gently wash without stripping. And the styling products sculpt soft curls without building up on the hair.”

We use a considered selection of JessiCurl products when cutting and styling at POP, allowing you to see how your hair responds before choosing products for home use.

The range is usually available in the salon. It’s a range we trust for its consistency and simplicity. Although the products come in three variations incl. Island Fantasy and Citrus Lavender we mainly stock No Fragrance Added —our preferred option whenever possible.
